Why is writing or speaking Chinese actively important for language learners?
- Essential for listening and speaking comprehension
- Learn the language actively
I majored in English in university 20 years ago. I struggled with listening comprehension. My English textbook told me that I should listen more because it's like learning to drive. And then I worked hard on that. Unfortunately, it didn't work. Over the years I have found out that the reason I can't listen well is that I can't speak the language correctly.
I used to keep a journal in English when I was in college. I hoped my English would improve automatically. That turns out not to be the case. It's a pity I didn't have my journal checked by a native speaker.
So when I see many language learners want to listen more, read more, watch more dramas, and etc., I want to stop them. It's like seeing a train running to a cliff.
I want to develop a language training service. The language learners will keep a journal. They will write something in Chinese every day. I will correct them and give the reason. I want to see how effective this method is.
